What’s a GIA Diamond Certificate? How do I verify its authenticity?
GIA Diamond

A GIA diamond is a diamond internationally certified by GIA. When GIA established the International Diamond Grading System in 1953, the 4C grading criteria became the benchmark in diamond grading. Thus, GIA’s became the authority and most respected global institute for identifying and grading diamonds.

What are the 4C’s of Diamonds

Before selecting your GIA diamond from ALUXE, let’s learn about the 4 elements of 4C diamonds as they directly impact the pricing of a diamond! Don’t assume that any diamond can fetch a good price as if its color is not sufficiently clear, clarity is poor, or if the carat size is too small, and cutting isn’t exquisite, these factors will significantly impact the value of a diamond.

What is a GIA Diamond Grading Report?

While one might understand that diamonds are graded according to the 4C criteria, a normal person will rarely have the ability to assess diamonds; this is especially true as technological advancements have made it harder to differentiate between real and fake diamonds. As the world’s most respected diamond grading entity, GIA Laboratory offers grading services which include highly credible GIA certificates

GIA Diamond Grading Reports consist of the following contents

1. Shape and Cutting Style: The diamond’s outline and shape, cut, and style of its facet arrangement, for example: Round Brilliant、Pear Brilliant、Princess Cut.

2. Measurements: For round diamonds, minimum diameter - maximum diameter x depth (mm).

3. Carat Weight: The unit weight of diamonds is carat, with heavier diamonds fetching higher prices.

4. Color Grade: GIA grading consists of the alphabets D-Z, with D being the highest quality of color and ascending letters denoting poorer quality.

5. Clarity Grade: The diamond’s blemishes and inclusions are identified under 10X magnification on a scale of 11, according to GIA.

6. Cut Grade: Grading is in the order of EX, VG, G, F, and P, from excellent to poor.

7. Polish: This refers to the polishing of the diamond’s surface, also consisting of the 5 grades EX, VG, G, F, and P, from excellent to poor.

8. Symmetry: The highest quality Hearts and Arrows diamonds contain excellent symmetry! Similarly, they are graded from excellent to poor with the 5 grades of EX, VG, G, F, and P.

9. Fluorescence:The intensity of fluorescence emitted by a diamond when exposed to ultraviolet let. They are graded with 5 grades of None, Faint, Medium, Strong, Very Strong.

10. Clarity Characteristics: The diamond’s surface and interior characteristics under magnification.

11. Inscriptions:Laser inscription on the diamond’s girdle, otherwise known as the GIA Report Number.

12. Depth: Diamond height, (depth/average diameter) x 100%, which is the distance from tabletop to the diamond’s pointed tip on its bottom.

13. Table: The diamond’s average table size as a percentage of the front, or the diamond’s largest facet.

14. Girdle: The thickness and condition of the diamond’s girdle.

15. Culet: The size of the cutlet, categorized into 6 states EXTREMELY LARGE, VERY LARGE, SLIGHTLY LARGE, SMALL, VERY SMALL, POINTED, and NONE.

The GIA Diamond Grading Report consists of a Diamond Grading Report and a Diamond Dossier. Both contain similar content with the only difference being that the report contains a plot diagram while the dossier does not.

Verifying the authenticity of GIA Reports

1. Authentic GIA logo.
2. Authentic GIA logo watermark in special white ink.
3. Authentic anti-counterfeiting thread - This must be observed with a magnifying glass to identify the CMYK color spots.
4. Authentic GIA laser inscription.
5. Thermal sensitive identification - When temperature exceeds a certain range, it will transform from its original gray to a white color.
6. Exclusive QR Code - Certificate information can be verified on
