The 4 Major Elements of Diamonds-『Cut』

Refined cuts will enhance the sparkle of your diamond: Many people often confuse the cut of a diamond with its shape. In truth, the cut of a diamond refers to cuts made to the diamond’s surface. Regardless of shape, masterpieces such as an exquisitely cut diamond can only be created from the hands of a diamond cutter. Perfectly cut diamonds are capable of concentrating and reflecting more light, thereby enhancing the diamond’s value.Do not worry if you’re unable to determine the quality of a diamond’s cut. When purchasing a diamond, try comparing its refraction of light: A well-cut diamond looks dazzling even on the simplest of settings.

Cut and Shape

In 1919, mathematician Marcel Tolkowsky invented a cutting method to maximize the radiance of diamonds when looking from above. The cutting method was named Round Brilliant, and it is the most commonly seen round diamond. The standard Round Brilliant diamond has 57 or 58 facets, 33 on the crown and 24 or 25 (an additional facet cut at the bottom point) below the girdle. Other types of cuts are known as Fancy Cut and include shapes such as squares, pears, and hearts.

Cut Grading

PF This accounts for 1% of existing diamonds. They are the rarest, most perfect diamonds on the market.
EXCELLENT This accounts for 3% of existing diamonds. Light entering the diamond is perfectly refracted, resulting in an extremely rare and perfect diamond. This is identical to the perfect diamonds offered by today’s multinational jewelers.
VERY GOOD This accounts for 15% of existing diamonds. The refracted fire and sparkle are similar to ideal cuts, but with higher flexibility in pricing.
GOOD This accounts for 25% of existing diamonds. They can refract most sparkle and fire entering the diamond. They are priced slightly lower than perfectly cut diamonds.
FAIR This accounts for 35% of existing diamonds. While they are of an acceptable grade, ALUXE only offers the most perfect diamonds which is why anything below a GOOD cutting grade is unused.
POOR ALUXE does not use diamonds which do not meet an acceptable standard of cutting.
